was just watching that video last night/this morning, it was really good, but now seems to have been pulled. there was some good dancing in it and i like how they were basically having their own party in a disused swimming pool. maybe the sort of place @IdleRich might go urbexing?

good to see them trying a few things in the video to keep it interesting, they had a screen within a screen at one point (also a technique used by voldy moyo), then a part where they were cutting the video to beat match. and apart where they were having a drink and a sandwich, watching themselves through the cutting.

best was this bit where they had logos spinning over the screen - took a screenshot. i think it's one that marcio matos has used before, maybe something from the azores?

this is their youtube channel - plenty more mixes on it

and i did a bit more googling and found this recent principe mix for carhartt WIP which i've been playing this morning. it's a more chill out type affair, different style to the RS Producoes one, very good.

and it turns out marcio matos did an interview with pitchfork earlier this year as well

recent blacksea nao maya mix for nts here

and this nyege nyege comp has a few principe people on it

not listened to those last two. at this point, you sort of know what you're getting from these guys, there's nothing new, but it's still really exciting music for me.

one of the best threads here. you're just unable to comprehend anything that's not pasty white English.

I don't like any pasty white English music though! I just hate foreign stuff. I think we should ban discussion of it.

this is nice, like herzog music

this got a reprint and so i listened again the other day - it's really good. puts me in mind of mamman sani

or even otis g johnson

maybe Juana Molina as well

although not really the same thing as those last two, cos they are more obviously songs with vocals.

but similar mood in my ears. just that thing of a peculiar sound, worked over in a few different ways.

I was looking into the blurb that comes with the album and had never heard of this guy mentioned, Victor Segalen. Sounds very interesting, has anyone heard of him?

I did a bit of digging last night but only found a few bits and pieces, but all seemed well worth looking into. This is one of his poems from his "Steles" series:

Mongol Libation

It's here we took him alive. As he fought well we offered him some office: he preferred to serve his Prince in death. We cut his hamstrings: he waved his arms about to witness to his zeal. We cut his arms: he bellowed his devotion to Him. We sliced his mouth from ear to ear: he signaled with his eyes that he remained faithful. Let's not pierce his eyes as one does to cowards. Let's cut his head off respectfully, and pour the koumys of the brave, with this libation:

When you are reborn, Cheng-ho-chang, do us the honor of being reborn among us.

And his book "Paintings" sounds brilliant - "This unclassifiable masterpiece is a series of prose poems describing Chinese paintings, which do not exist."

Gonna try pick up some of his bits but wondered if someone had read him.

That top one is pretty cool - the cheapo keys and innocence reminds of The Greatest Name That Lives - for some reason the original seems to not be on YouTube, all I can find is a bizarre remix which hollows it out, seemingly designed to remove personality and feeling and replace it with absolutely nothing. But you'll get what I mean about the keyboard

It is about time the underground takes a hard stand against dance remixes/edits.

I hear what you're saying but
a) I kinda think fuck it let em do it and if I don't like I don't have to listen
b) Also, I didn't really listen that well just now, maybe I'll like it tomorrow and want to get it. So perhaps we should just rule that out before we bring in the ban.
You do have a point though with ones like this where you gotta pay about five hundred quid for the original, but if you buy the edit I bet it's on the b and is the only one gets spun but bumps up sales nicely.

"Principe guy"...meaning the guy who runs the label, or one of the artists? Love the label, and the covers by Marcio Matos.

His name is Vincent I think he runs it. Playing house mainly though - says he leaves the label sound to the artists cos they do it better.
