Thanks @Matthew - looks really interesting! I had the final issue in that CCRU series but never saw the other ones...

The Escape Routes one is essentially his sleevenotes for the Virgin CD, no? Looks amazing also - was that a thing that was produced at the time?

it's like a v1 of those linernotes. i looked this morning. slightly different. experiment was a tiny one-off fanzine i picked up.

i should mention in passing that i always loved (a) kodwo's generosity in talking about race - he credits mark sinker for talking about afro-futurism - an unimaginable gesture in today's brittle climate (b) that he appreciated the black dog so much 🥰❤💕

as i mentioned yesterday - motion capture was basically mark fisher transcribing one of kodwo's rants. which is why you get bloopers like Zenakis (as opposed to Xenakis). and it was something mark and i talked about (and which mark said he preferred to "more brilliant than the sun) - i bought it from the book shop at the foot of longacre in covent garden, must have been 1995, before i knew anything about CCRU and all that. i just knew kodwo from his critical beats column in the wire and liked his taste in music.

by this stage i had already done those raves in west africa, was working as a runner for ridley scott and "deep in the jungle" 😂 rushing hard!

Ah cool - where did you pick it up? (I didn't know he was into self-publishing...)

it was someone's fanzine - not kodwo's. when i met kodwo at the ICA in (maybe 1996) i had only ever seen his name in writing so i went up to him and said - aah you are KOD-WO eshun - and he said, quite tartly, "kojo" (which is the correct pronunciation) and that was then end of that converstaion :ROFLMAO:

That interview was tagged onto the end of More Brilliant Than the Sun, though, so I always considered it to be part of the book.
