I mean it's not that different from sampling is it.

Tbf I never imagined Goldie wrote the melody for inner city life anyway. I guess I thought Diane Charlemagne might have come up with it based on the instrumental.

I can kind of hear what he means here too – it's over-fussy.

Still really gives me the chills when it ramps up a gear and starts sounding like an evil flatulent force.

It ends quite hauntingly too. The man knows how to play haunting chords.

Did Goldie base 'Inner City Life' on this? Sounds really similar.

Yes.

But inner city life is better. Lonnie Liston Smith was always a bit too hippie.

The track Expansions is great though, where his love and peace shtick works really well, tight as fuck funk with a wicked drum section. Voodoo woman as well, great liquid magma bassline, real classy with those clavinet strings.
Dr. Lonnie Smith on the other hand is great.
