No my approach is that beauty and ugliness are utilitarian constructs, the nmemonics of the culture of a species to labour and retain its memory. This is how I can appreciate certain 70s jazz funk tracks, both being a reflection of consolation/upward mobility in black America and also in London. It is not a case of subversion but of acknowledging simple social fact. Beauty and ugliness for me do not exist in an irrevocable aesthetic way in the sense they did for Immanuel Kant (or countless mystics in the islamic world before him.) The universe may be awesome, but that doesn't then legislate beauty or destruction.
