nothing again gwen, but don't about a thousand other female artists have that same vocal sound? part of it is a style of singing, part of it is the production. it's like a perfunctory pop vocal sound. I don't feel like I can distinguish her actual voice from dozens of others.

Kinda. She has a bit of that Britney-style vocal fry, but I think you can still recognise her voice. Not as much as you could when she was in No Doubt, mind you.

yeah, but I was just using her as a perhaps imperfect example of my point. there seems to be a standard female pop vocal sound that's pervasive, almost the equivalent of autotune.

I think Stefani has one of the better voices in modern pop: distinctive and obviously identifiable as her own, but unpredictable in how she attacks and performs a melody and lyric.

There's definitely a thing in modern pop where they sing like Rihanna if she went to Brit School and its a style I don't like, but the stars who are holdovers from yesteryear don't really do it (yet).

Researching a 'guilty pleasures' playlist last night I happened across this and realised it's actually pretty great. Nice fuzzy fart sounds. 2004, a very pungent nostalgia bucket for me.

That misteeq led me to sunship to Flowers.

Funny how these moments of peerless genius get overplayed and you become loath to listen to them. Then you listen to them for some reason and remember "oh yeah this is why this is overplayed"

This was underplayed:

All Saints never released a dud single, everything was a 9 out of 10 at least. The albums were very good if not great but their Greatest Hits is probably the best album I own.
