I wasn't dissing All Saints. I had a soft spot for them. I thought Shaznay Lewis was gifted, like Mark Morrison.

'Under the Bridge' was bad, true. The combat trousers weren't great. I don't have an issue with West London. Apart from Clapham.

"Under The Bridge" by the Red Hot Chilli Peppers is a terrible song. All Saints' version changes it from a boring dirge about heroin and with a few lyric changes makes it about modern isolation in cities, the walk home after a big night, the mix of fear and shame and chemical comedown, it's so powerful and intuitive for me.

I never thought about it like that.

Other than maybe The Libertines, The Chilis seem like the absolute antithesis of everything Dissensus stands for.

read that quickly and thought you said The Chills. I wondered why you singled them out and was ready to defend them!

Girlfriend keeps playing this in the other room... perfect German post-punk-pop like 99 Red Balloons or Major Tom (Coming Home) or whatever, that is so immediate you'll swear you've always known it. But if you're like me you haven't. Doesn't take much to imagine a world where this was a worldwide megasmash.
