I put them together because they both have weird stuttering drums. I was listening to 'Silmaxa' earlier and it reminded me of 'Bap de la bap'.

I find that one surprising in that most people don't know that the credit that says "M Jackson" refers not to Michael Jackson but a total unrelated Mick Jackson from the UK:
The one I suggested for the thread was No No No which I always thought was by Dawn Penn until I realied it wasn't, in fact there are several earlier versions eg

A lot of people suggested Hanging on the Telephone, originally by The Nerves but I reckon music geeks on here would all know that. And Denis and Tide is High are even more well known to be covers I guess. Also Step On by Happy Mondays pretty much a cover but those are all kinda perennial favs I think.

ah, had no idea about "no no no", good one. and I'm so old, I bought that nerves 45 when it came out!

I guess that it was a bit of a wild west with regards copyright in Jamaica at that time so they just claimed it.
On this link they are saying this is the original but I thought that i had heard a more primitive blues thing.... could be wrong.
