this is why I think some sort of shitty UBI is a real possibility, not any time too soon of course, but eventually.

I think the hidden question at the heart of UK politics is 'do you pay people to sit at home, or do you pay them to dig and fill holes?'.

I had a history teacher who visited the Soviet Union in the 80s and he said he saw a guy whose job it was to go up and down escalators cleaning the grips down the sides.

This is something I used to talk to Mark about. The image of capitalism is of a ruthlessly efficient machine but in fact it's one overriding feature is massive, reckless waste and redundancy.
