Can you bash them out unrestricted then just PM them to me in future? Think I’d enjoy

lol, there was no great struggle or vision. There was some ongoing tension over the direction the board was taking which then exploded due to some awful behaviour. If anything, Mark's position was that certain people should be able to treat others like shit as long as they had the intellectual credentials to back it up. When this was challenged he took his ball and went home. There was clearly a lot of other stuff going on with him at the time, and TBH it was a sorry episode that was probably unavoidable in the long run, but it was certainly far more dramatic than it needed to be .
This is exactly what I remember.
The guy HMLT whatever was an utter cunt and he made it impossible for anything to happen except arguments involving him. I mean, even on the
odd rare occasion I found myself agreeing with him he would still go into attack mode, either cos he was too angry to read what I'd said properly, or just cos he had no other way to communicate rather than insulting. Like a child confused by his feelings who pulls a girl's hair. He would get banned, then come back with a new name and about thirty seconds later it happened again. KP was simply defending the indefensible by sticking up for him cos he was a mate. That's it.

For what it's worth, I came to this place, and return to it, out of admiration for it and its members. Something about it, as constituted by its members, seems to be looking a certain something in the eye, something that most others cast their gaze down from.

Not meant to be sycophantic, although it can certainly be read that way. Just in case your guys' history skews the now, as histories can do, my outside perspective could recalibrate things a bit. Or not, but hopefully it makes one or two of you that much more proud to be here.

I just listened to Matt Colquhoun on Hermitix talking about Fisher, perhaps rekindling my naive and romantic opinion of this place.

tbf even at it's worst the tone here ain't ever approached 4chan, YT comment section, etc toxicity

more like familial squabbling, with the mixture of love, bitterness, pettiness, etc that implies

granted I wasn't here for the kpunk era or HMLT (came in shortly after his final departure) but even from my understanding of those days

I think I said elsewhere in some older thread, it all summed to matter much more 10 years ago

that was the infancy days of social media, YT, etc, the transition from blogs ("web 2.0") to social media

internet arguing has gotten both much more and far less serious in the last decade. the naivety is gone. almost everyone is fluent in internet discourse.

(this btw is where - unlike real life - I would agree you guys - luke, shiels, etc - about authenticity/irony/sincerity)

I can't speak to the personal side of kpunk biz, but it's hard to imagine for example the zhao flame wars nowadays. who has the energy for it.

it's all out warfare, every second of the day
this mindset I don't agree with even joking

I think I said before this place is best when it's adversarial without being overtly hostile

I've been a bit more ornery than usual the last couple months - lockdown, society crumbling etc will set a temper on edge - but advocating competing viewpoints is always gonna produce better results than everyone saying how awesome everything is and we all agree with each other

but, it's collegiate. the idea of having to hold back rants is like, totally nuts to me. it's a message board, not psyops.

i hate it when it's too cosy. but i don't like it when it's nasty. there's a good space between. and of course i am being silly when i say its total warfare but its also true that there is a perpetual battle to pull the place this way or that, to impose one code of conduct or another. that's part of every human interaction.

Did they meet on that Kubrick forum?

K-Punk's inference was that Padraig was a big hero on the Kubrik forum, which had a higher intellectual calibre than Dissensus. But, out of interest, I did a bit of digging on this, and it turned out he behaved in exactly the same way there, and got exactly the same reaction.

That said, the original Padraig was iconic.

After he threatened me, I did some digging as well. Found his real name, where he lived, a few juicy tidbits... Probably a good thing he got permabanned when he did.
