Not really a faction cos I didn't know anybody or the context or anything. I mean I've met a lot of people since who live(d) in London (you could make a kind of geographical slicing too but that wouldn't tell the whole story) over the years but I don't think I was naturally part of any faction.

I'd say most of the original posters here came because of the blogs. Some of us (like Paul Meme and I) knew each other already - and there were a handful of people we knew from the UK-Dance forum too.

Some ILXOR double agents. I wonder if we turned any?

I'd say the factionalism happened in various different ways. One is the intellectual vs anti-intellectual that Luka has mentioned. But there were others - like some people who just posted on the big Grime thread - or people who knew each other from London and people who didn't.

You can split the people who exited the dubstep forum into the ones who thought this would be a good place for self-promotion and people who just couldn't be arsed with dubstep any more.

A generally unacknowledged one is people who thought they might make a career out of music or journalism (and to be fair a good few did) and people who absolutely did not want to do that or had no chance of doing so. I'm not suggesting that is good or bad btw - it was a good mix while it lasted, in fact.

there was a huge exodus from the dubstep forum and they were almost all paste people. the shining exception there is Jack Law who went on to write hip-hop reviews for The Wire. it was like when you have an exclusive little house music scene for good looking people who can afford to go to Ibiza and then a load of plebs from Croydon come in and ruin the vibe.

there's been all sorts of funny little alliances and so on. craner and vimothy formed a neo-con alliance for a while and took on all-comers for instance. well, usually droid actually. mostly droid.

Man like Corpsey was from Dubstep Forum, no? He's good I think.

I went over there to spam them up for Woofah and it was awful.

Protecting the scene and career building.

And the music was terrible.

Lots of home counties types with Jah Shaka as their actual avatar that would appear each time they posted.

There was (I will stop now) a thread on the Dubstep Forum about how they all fancied one of the poor unfortunate barmaids at Plastic People.
