you can stir up strange forces on the internet. people get upset and they can attack you directly and threaten your project and the more beliigerent you become in response the more fiercely they swarm and attack. it's very exhausting and can send you mad. you get caught in a kind of cats cradle.

One person like that can do a lot more damage than multiple boosters can do good though. There's also the chance they're the kind of person who will turn up at your house and try to stab you or something.

I flirted with the darkside when I called Craner an awful man. It took the combined powers of several Dissenians to undo the bad magic of that tag.

one of the very clever things me and Mark did was to deliberately underwrite and rush to focus on the creation of energy and the generating of ideas. that stopped it becoming too precious and self-regarding

"he is a classic pseud in that his ideas are all modifications of whatever hackademic gods he's worshipping to the thing in hand, and as with the bataille-on-paris thing on the reynolds thread it's ultimately a boring parlour game."

but these people create stasis. becasue they don't dare to risk it. they're too knowing. too educated. too aloof. too afraid. thats why ilx is the enemy.

"I really get into about one out of every five or ten posts, skim over a few here and there, and usually notice my eyes glazing over during most of the 'critical' talk over philosophers of the 20th century.

I had never heard the term "pseud" until I started posting on ilx."
