All this stuff authors say about big plots and how their characters come to life and have minds of their own and take over the story, I don't even get it, an alien language.

Doesn't sound like you're too far off. You've sort of made the world with all your colour coded lego notes, you just need to walk around in it maybe

Yeah, an extension of your lego analogy I suppose. Except its giant lego as big as a house with corridors and windows and you can go outside and run up a hill and look at it from afar as well and it gives yoh different feelings from all these different positions and vantage points. Something like that.

So it's something more than sticking bricks together and you can walk around in it.

Are you calling me a prepackaged, insincere bookish cunt?

No I’m really not. I’m assuming that’s the type of reader luke is getting at though, who might just want to be someone who has read the books rather than getting into how they’ve misunderstood them with others

And maybe there’s something about how the book is approached - as a product consumed, conquered and completed as a status signal vs being an experience shared. A bit simplistic but you know what I mean

I’m watching something on lyotard where the professor is saying he’s a chameleon and talks about Hegel criticising schelling “he conducted his education in public” and I think that can be a useful thing

this is very good actually and its what everyone from Mark onward, has done by default, and of course it comes with a lot of dishonesty and insecure defensive posturing. Poetix alluded to it when he said how ashamed he is of his Badiou period.

I wonder now how closely the vehemence of Mark's defense of music and art from a given period coincided with the success or not of his career at that time. Not that this would undermine it at all, but I did always wonder where the energy for those extremes of assertion came from.
