@Corpsey will you buy @luka dinner tonight? he's very skint at the moment near destitute in fact and though he'd never admit it, very weak in both mind and body. he's too proud to ask for help, but he needs someone nearby to show him some basic common humanity. i'd do it myself but i can't be arsed

is ambient that popular? i don't think i've met anyone in real life who likes it. maybe some of those youtube background study playlists. i'm trying to find mates to go with to this thing Ambient Church and no-one is up for it. actually i met one greenpoint barista who likes grouper, we started talking because he was playing dean blunt in the shop. which was the first and only time i've ever heard anyone play dean blunt anywhere.

someone has probably said it already in the thread (I'm not reading 22 pages to check), but it's one of those genres where no way in hell would i pay 15 pounds for a CD, but i am going to check it out on youtube

also a genre where there's so much of it that its hard to navigate to the best bits

boomkat is a going concern...

I can remember when they had a physical outlet ( "pelican neck" ) and it was all techno, now they're virtual, and practically all they sell is ambient / drone / "modern composition" - a successful "pivot"

someone must be keeping them in business ( err, maybe it's me, I have to admit I bought a 14 CD box set of Eliane Radigue off them last week )

lots of that, sure, but boomkat is also pretty broad in what they carry. it's where I learned about all the Youth stuff out of Manchester, weirdo dancehall (Time Cow, Gavsborg, etc.). I'm not complaining.
