The Matrix philosophy is bong rip "this shit is going to blow your mind" Galaxy Brain, minus the bong rip

probably why the first one - where they treat the ridiculousness with the tongue in cheek sincerity (there's a word) it deserves - is pretty good

and the last two - which make everything literal and then take it all dead seriously - are such tedious garbage

though the Zion psytrance rave doesn't help

No one goes out onto the streets and into the jaws of the state violence on a whim

ive had a few stabs at that. the riff raff thread. the method acting supplants irony thread. the pastiche thread. the beyond soul thread. needs more work though. thats a big project we can take on shiels. we'll nail it down if you like.

This is what I was getting at when I said that posting on Twitter is an inherently aesthetic performance.

You have to look at the popular modes of appeal. 'Read the room', 'Boomer', 'Racism is little dick energy'

It's not about being wrong, so much as it is about being lame. Internet culture has already accepted the fact that that ethos is all there is, that it is all a performance, even if they aren't cognizant of it. Nuance is gone. Logos can't be trusted. Nobody knows who is authentic or earnest, the notions become meaningless.

The aesthetic rules of the room are constantly being worked out cybernetically.

You don't agree that a dichotomy of authentic/inauthentic has been distorted and abused with seemingly increasing intensity over the last couple of decades? this idea that there's something behind the curtain, some pure essence, of self or of some substance, in everything from bread to trump? It's been abused and distorted so much that It can feel like we're moving beyond being able to use those words to have meaningful conversations

i understand you shiels dont worry!

and not necessarily a bad thing.

that the aesthetic is just as good a measuring stick as any other, maybe better. i object to 'Read the room', 'Boomer', 'Racism is little dick energy' primarily on aesthetic grounds.

No, but if we're not even pretending that you need to have the argument on your side, as long as you have the people on your side, surely that leads to bad shit?

i think the problem is that peoples aesthetic barometers are nowhere near sensitive enough.

when shiels says we have progressed several levels beyond the irony/sincerity opposition he's talking about artistic strategy really. where the artist of today, and as you point out, that's all of us now, begins.

i cringe when one of my basic mates denounces some gesture or other as being 'ironic'. as if we were still in the year 1995.
