In non-continuous space. Virtual beach. Pink sand. Mauve sea lapping. Events repeatedly materialise as the electric gathering of substance into a central void. The invisible stirs, shivers, ripples with electricity. SynthSoothing. Ephememeral crystallisation of starlight. The momentary realisation of pure potential. Time tilts. This way and that /\/\/\/\ angling the trajectory of movement. Fissile moments like a sudden flock of birds blinking in and out of the material, twinkling into and out of the seen, at all coordinate points, fly past, left, right, above and all points in between. Massive acceleration to the light limit at which the force is collapsed in on itself. Entropy sucking events into a vacuum. Black holes wink into being, suck time into slowness. Sound decays. Beware. Time involutions. Folded against its own limits, concertinad into violent paradox. Tumult of history. Intensification as unrest. Great contractions and relaxations of the material plane. Bird oracles mark the boundary points. Beacons flash warnings.

This is the hype one.

Tick tock between twin time states. Unstable physical construct. Lurching passage between two colliding universes, before the merge is made and contraries balanced and mutually locked. Imperative command-centre maintains both brain contact. Hold on!
Phase-shift. Breakthrough to provisional equilibrium condition. Attempt to establish traction, halting at first. Acceleration established. Cruising speed reached. Acceleration to Threshold. Breakthrough. Transistion to enhanced light body. Resources commandeered for light-craft. New abilities. Greater complexity and coherence. Collapsing time to reconstruct it at a different plane. Turning the time cube. Enhanced engine drives. Entry into contested zone. The eternal guard dogs bark. Fear enzyme flashes in the cortex display panel. Exit. Return to mapped zone. Approach void centre. Self almost collapsed in huge pressure of void gravity. Steer away.

Dance music is so boring these days compared to that Hype tune

I blame the decline of sampling

Nowadays everything is in its right place, in key, on a grid, perfectly balaced

In those days they were chucking sounds together like some sort of large hadron collider

WHILE making ppl dance

The crucible stage

The way an idea is picked up, played with for maybe 30 seconds and then tossed aside

Like a kid in a candy store

That hype tune is the peak of development I think. You can already see the huge decline even two years later with the baraka tune which is a great piece of music but not nearly as futuristic

Was it because even these shocking, futuristic sounds that could be played with quickly ossified into cliche?

Sort of the feeling you get listening to those Zomby hardcore tunes, where the stock elements of hardcore are present and correct, or the Special Request jungle tunes, or those grime tunes ppl make now with the eski synth

I'm not sure it's about toys. The tick tock between two times, before synchonisation, at the start of The Trooper has me thinking it's about the resources of the instant. What Time makes available at any given point of its field.

As conceptual space. Although I suppose that could be characterised as toy box to be fair. As abilities. Light-vessel upgrades.

I don't think we have that sense of violence and fight for survival catalog talked about on the avant-grade thread

Sampling really opens up temporal possibilities because you can't quite control things to the degree you can with synths - although nowadays I suppose you can, given the technology... What I like about making music is the sense of not being in control of it, fully - things escape your control, it's like marshalling natural forces, it's simultaneously self-erasing and self-affirming.

Perhaps that's what makes the less professional rappers in road rap somehow charming - it's the element of slippage, the beats are all locked in place...

This is a good example of music that sounds like uncontrollable frenzied forces held barely in place...

I have bedimmed
The noontide sun, called forth the mutinous winds,
And ’twixt the green sea and the azured vault
Set roaring war—

You don't get it with grime so much but with jungle as I was alluding to above you move off-earth and gravity isn't a constant velcroing you to the horizontal anymore. You build the other body and learn how to operate it. Full rotational movement on every axis.

Imperfect loop lengths ftw. Everything is aligned now.

No idea what kind of tech would be required to kick off another 2 decades of creative spark the way that sampling and sequencers did. Somehow I don't see it happening, unless we get matrix style downloadable music skills when the singularity happens.
