funk is ego. an assured gait. slick and seamless. simultaneously firm and agile. walking bollocks first.

that being said this is a little too muscular. too many little cleaver musical nods to pastiche sophistication. i like ian dury, but this is approaching zapper every now and then. 'wake up and make love with me' without the mccoy tyner expansiveness.

Foley is a motherfucker on the bass. Simply cannot be shook. There's another one from the same gig where Chris Dave is doing everything in his power to displace the beat and Foley like an anvil of funk plays the same line over and over for aaages. Was at that gig. Rip Charlie Wright's.

Luka: have to say I've grown tired of him now, man. It was cool at first but I like grooves. He's good at playing em as well but he can't seem to help it. Also he spawned a fucking monster in the world of drumming. Jesus christ. They can l take their 2nd or even 3rd snares and put em where the sun don't shine! (back in the cupboard)

Lol snap sorry patty but that's a thoughtcrime. That bass is the worst thing I've ever heard in my life!

Do you like it? Or are you just getting off on the physical impossibility of the thing? Are you actively enjoying the sound? Cos it's the sound itself more than the structure which is grossing me out. All loud and brassy.

of course you fucking were.

Sorry bartok. Charlie Wright's was one of the best jazz bars in London for years. Up until they hosted the (dope as fuck) late night jam sessions for the London jazz festival one year and thought that was gonna launch em into the big time. They expanded the room but had to put the stage at an awkward angle so most of the audience were looking at the band from the side. Lost its vibe after that. And was I gonna miss a chance to see CD? Nah.

The bass drifts off for sure, but the opening part is cool. Guess he listens to Pharcyde
