Is Sputnik mentioned in the MCU?
And this, in turn, can be very precisely timed. Petillon, following Pynchon, hones in on the exact moment as Marshall McLuhan: the launching of Sputnik. The stifling stasis of the Eisenhower late Modernist mirage essentially ended on this day.

"This came to an abrupt end in 1957 when America was jolted out of its complacency by the shattering news that the Russian Sputnik was orbiting the earth, and started waking from its drowsy, almost Edwardian languor. The Crying of Lot 49 is a record of that slow process of awakening, as new voices "humming out there," at first muffled and faintly heard, began to register."

As per McLuhan, nature and artifact became one with this launch. Collective human consciousness became externalized and identical with the body of the world. Heaven was finally married, in the garb of high technology, to Earth. And yet not unambiguously so. Was this the Day of Pentecost or the Fall of Babel? Was the satellite launched by the Empire or the Counterforce? Was it a triumph of information or entropy, ecstasy or paranoia? None can say.

Reality is the TSA, pure theater, shopping mall cops and dressed-up x-rays. But here we have "SHIELD," a cross between a John Galt and Elon Musk Great Man model tucked nicely within bureaucratic performance art.

In a time of moral crisis, he doesn't search his soul—he goes to his own museum, i.e. finds himself by way of checking his image.

There's always a scene with the superhero staring at their mask or suit in a moment of crisis, sometimes in a glass case so they can also see their reflection.

I like that, I feel it's about destiny, stepping into shoes. Here he's soaking in his own legends and press relations. Don't get high on your own supply!

SHIELD is competence porn. Unbelievable tech. Hyper-precise stealth operations on pirate ships. "America when America was great." WW2 myths. etc

Yeah except when they're like "we predicted the future by tracking bank records" that was a laugh

In this universe 1972 never happened women never joined the work force and xenoestrogens in plastics didn't cause sperm counts to plummet

That's what Thor is a symbol of

Norse power, primitive man, high tesosterone
Limburger really looks up to that YouTuber 'The Golden One' who bases his whole look on Marvel's Thor

He's like Anakin a fallen man half machine traumatized by his past, flashing back
I actually tried to watch that today as a marvel substitute and I could not believe how bad it was. I think that's why i got do into winter soldier. The comparison with revenge of the sith.
