Darned cockwombles.
There's an underlying problem in that there are a number of posters with a deluded sense of moral and intellectual authority. I can guarantee you're not more moral than any other posters, you aren't smarter. I don't know who you guys think you are to be dishing out tellings off or giving lessons. Have some humility and self-awareness. Just because you don't understand something it doesn't mean it's bad.

There's a group of posters put-off by the sort of thing me and Luka do (and judging by the DMs a group who are invigorated by it). Likewise there are people who are completely put off by all the stuff you lot are doing (I've barely posted recently because of it).

Just ignore stuff you don't like and partake in the stuff you do.

OK, I'll take the bait before I do take a break.

It is quite funny that you react in such a thin-skinned way when you're criticised, given what we're discussing*; let alone that you tell other people to exercise humility and self-awareness at the same time as perfectly demonstrating a lack of either.

To play your game, I don't know who you think you are to be telling other people not to give their opinions. We just disagree; deal with it. You've made it clear you're not changing, and I hear that.

And don't overemphasise and overdramatise the problem either. This is about one thing (or group of things) that's been said. Not two groups of diametrically opposed people. As you well know.

"Numerous PMs of support", LOL.

I'm quite happy to stand up anywhere and I say that I'm an absolute cunt who is thick as shit. That's what a C of E childhood and a 1980s comprehensive school will do for you. I'm not better than anyone else here and everyone has something to bring to the table.

The difficulty with your position is that discussion is the only way to resolve all this. Not telling people to shut up or calling them names. Or for that matter perpetuating this ridiculous "treehouse" farce where one poster and their mates get special treatment.

that's not exactly wrong. i'm like a little excitable puppy, wagging my tale wanting everyone to play and have a nice time, so i do get despondent if i feel people are needlessly spewing bile into what's supposed to be a fun place to be. if you see people having fun, even if you don't understand it or it's not your cup of tea, have some empathy and leave them too it. likewise I'll try and get better at not feeling so stifled if you lot get grumpy.

I'm sure I can be a dick sometimes, fine. And no doubt my arguments don't make as much sense as I think they do on occasion, and no doubt I'm guilty of some of the fallacies or prejudices I've accused others of.

But there is a level of actual, personal spite that, unless I'm totally self-deluded, I don't stoop to.

Further, there's a bit of a difference between getting into a shouting match on a basically moribund music forum with about a dozen regular contributors, and slandering someone on Facebook in a thread that hundreds and perhaps thousands of people can see.

it's not a classic dissensus thread until...

Corpsey will try and rationalise it through some poetry book he's reading.

Thirdform will carpet bomb the thread with verbal machine warfare.

Reynolds will say something cleaver and then Luka will write some arty and obtuse and will get annoyed when we don't understand.

all seems a bit hysterical to me. i do prefer to be liked and i try to act in a way, usually, that makes me likeable but im not going to cry myself to sleep if a few internet people think i've 'crossed the line' in posts i deleted as soon as i woke up. i just dont care.

if you decide, amongst yourselves, that the bad outweighs the good with me then that's absolutely
reasonable and i'll leave you to it. i wont impose myself on people that dont want me here. you work it out.

im always inclined to view this stuff as group therapy but not everyone likes to examine things in that much detail or speculate about process and motive. again, it's a group, so, for better or for worse, these decisions are made collectively, albeit tacitly.

i know full well i have a nasty and sadistic side that gets out of hand from time to time and that obviously i feel guilty about and equally obviously has caused me problems in life and stopped me getting where i want to go. it's also fair to say that tea (and, more importantly, craner) have bourne the brunt of that becasue i disagree with them on a range of fundamentals. i dont just think, i know perfectly well i'm out of order at times and i've said as much to both of them or multiple occassions. and then i do it again.

but having said that, they do get on my nerves with the way they dance on the graves of palestinian children.

the old men are a side issue. they dont really intrude much. they're easy to ignore. i feel aggreived on bartys behalf that no one is willing to give him credit for being a sparkplug but that's resentment for you. again, if people were willing to look at themelves theyd admit it.

part of me wants to apologise to tea but part of me feels i shouldnt until there is some acknoweldgement (from him) of his own role in driving people up the fucking wall.
i certainly dont hate you (tea) on a personal level, i dont really hate anyone, but you do make me mad time and time again.

it's all very well you lot having a pop at barty when you feel there's safety in numbers but hes 23
and youre in your 40s and surely it doesnt make you feel good about yourself?

i find it a bit embaressing to see that tbh. obviously i do respect eden i think he has genuine moral authority although he winds me up sometimes but the rest of you dont, to put it bluntly. and you know fuck all about rap and r&b. so why bother? what do you contribute other than taking up space?

contribution does matter. it's significant. it's not about being an elite it's about chipping in.

being smarter and knowing more about rap and r&b doesnt give me a license to be a cunt. at the same time the fact that i am not allowed to be a cunt doesnt mean you can pretend im not smarter or that i dont know more about rap and r&b. sometimes pat me on the back, luka, that was really clever, im so impressed with that clever thing you said. something like that maybe?

it's really hard, and i mean this, being a teacher and a leader. trying to strike the balance between encouragement and censoriousness. when to say, keep going, you're getting there, and when to say that's not good enough.

i was absolutely certain when i apologised to droid that he would take it the right way and act in good faith and not just chalk it up as a personal triumph. it gave me confidence to go ahead an act on my instincts. i knew he would be willing to meet me halfway even though a difference in sensibility meant we had been at one anothers throats, off and on for a thousand years.

Um, I don't take offence on this forum. I know the way it goes, it's amusing. I blocked Luka on Facebook over a year ago, but it wasn't totally his fault. I had family members and work colleagues on there so couldn't really risk his outbursts. It wasn't personal, and he didn't (I hope) take it as such. Facebook is awful for that sort of shit anyway and I deactivated my account recently that reason anyway.

Never felt particularly annoyed by the caricature of me here because I played a large part in creating it. Also, it's inaccurate, but there is also some truth in it. And I've never hidden my identity or opinions here at all. I set myself up for it in 2005, when this forum started. Why would I feel aggrieved? It's invigorating.

I guess Luke and I have known each other well since at least 2003, spent a lot of time together, so the dissonance is easier to navigate.

Probably why I knew block him on FB at the correct moment, without it disrupting our friendship.

And just think, that one act of humility and faith led you to a new zenith of spiritual revelation.
