Maybe every country or nation state can and will do their own digital currency,
but doubting it would come with the embedded eyeballs the CCP wants to use on it's citizens.
Video surv is one thing and surely popular and intrusive w law or order donut eaters here in UK and most anyplace that can afford it, but with this digital CCP $ you might as well have that barcode burned right into your back of neck or wrist.
Connected to the social status grid they have set up it's all
control control control.

Agreed - plus when the CCP combine it with this we're in for a world of pain:

China and Huawei's Dystopian 'New IP' Plan for 6G

Huawei is proposing a fundamental internet redesign, which it calls “New IP,” designed to build “intrinsic security” into the web. Intrinsic security means that individuals must register to use the internet, and authorities can shut off an individual user’s internet access at any time. In short, Huawei is looking to integrate China’s “social credit,” surveillance, and censorship regimes into the internet’s architecture.

Surely one of the biggest attractions of digital currency in the first place is the absence of control by a central bank?

Sure. That should make any Chinese citizen suspicious of intention - and they have seen alot.
Centralized control in an increasingly decentralized time ...
I don't see any good reason why the CCP will not eventually miscalculate, make a mistake, have an accident ( maybe they already did ? ) leading to break up of China back into the more local.

Their internal ideology of trying to nationalise their tech industry and cut the legs out from underneath their massively successfully independent companies is a novel one. I do wonder where it leads eventually

I'd say overseas properties and Swiss bank accounts for corrupt CCP officials - they're letting people build wealth and then stealing it for themselves

Did you see their meme with the Marvel heroes all stood waiting at Kabul airport with no plane to come get them?
