Kabaka Pyramid ft Masicka - Choppingz

a few years old but still sounds good to my ears - the 7" on Equiknoxx Musiq is a killer double sider - the other side "King Kabaka" is an amazing rework of the Queen Majesty riddim - good video as well:

In 2018, just a stone’s throw from the Legendary Lloyd Bullwackie’s studio, Bronx, New York City sees Time Cow, SO$A, Gavsborg & B Dot in the basement of an abandoned building. A makeshift studio assembled specifically for the occasion to come. After recording several vocal cuts over several days, there was a random vocal shouting out “Pearson Sound & Ben UFO." Time Cow, fascinated by the shout out, added ‘Ben UFO’ to SO$A’s tune as a placeholder and decided to leave it in

I Jahbar - Turn Up

The video to this great, an epic gangster film with themes of betrayal & revenge boiled down into 7 minutes

Is there any crossover between this "weird" stuff and the kind of thing @Benny B has been posting in 'New Dancehall'? Are big Jamaican artists using Equiknoxx and Duppy Gun beats at all or are they off doing their own thing entirely?

it's its own thing, which is why I'm posting stuff in this thread rather than the 'new dancehall' thread - although there's a case to be made that the @Benny B posts are more avant garde than the ones in this thread

No, nothing that I can think of, totally seperate thing.

Time cow did write that very good afropunk article about the rise of trap dancehall though.

I s'pose geography plays a part (despite the internet) as Duppy Gun's all white guys from the US, iirc, and I think Seekersinternational's Canadian. Is any of the stuff posted in here even made by people from Jamaica, aside from Equiknoxx?

it's an international thing - Equiknoxx are Jamaican but use vocalists from all over the world, whereas Duppy Gun riddims are built by international producers but voiced by obscure vocalists from Jamaica..

like this one - the producer Smurphy is from Mexico, the vocalists from JA

I Jahbar & RDL - Bumper

I can't help the melody owes something to Robin S's smash hit Show Me Love

DJ Smurphy - Montegod Riddim

What does the "Outernational" thing mean? Remember Honest Jons having a section on their site years ago and Seekers use the term too.
