Dunno if Benny B is still about but if so - didn't you do a mix of tunes along these lines Benny?

And if not, please do one thanx

to each his own, i supposed, but to imply that house music was "boring" until uk funky "showed" it to be otherwise is a bit presumptuous. i mean, which one of those genres has lasted 40+ years and which one flamed out in about two?

I suppose this (understandable) misinterpretation of the thread title is still an issue.

This wasn't really about proving house isn't boring, it was about shouting out the 'straight' house tunes that UK Funky DJs played. (Although I think actually this was a gateway for people like me who were always more into drum n bass/dubstep side of things to house 'proper'.)

yeah, I obviously misunderstood the thread title. maybe "house tunes that uk funky made us appreciate"

Wasn't "aimed" at you or anyone I just wanted to explain myself to third. I love these tunes you're posting, I'm a sucker for deep house, but the kind of tunes I had in mind were definitely more handbaggy or whatever. Which actually made it more interesting that they became credible to "serious" music heads (as I thought myself) who usually would only accept deep house as credible.

I just don't know how to endow you with the ruffneck soul ja ideal.

it's not like rugged around the edges UK house didn't exist in the 90s. of course yer martin clarke's willingly downplay it because it's the narritive jungle>2step but it's more like hardcore-early jungle>housengarage>2step

the funky stuff i was into was the more dark (not as in horror, as in bad) ruffhouse end of things so i concede it's not the most intellectually honest take on things.

nightslugs but fuckit it's a tune:

this ones like a 2010s take on 92 kitchen sink hardcore

i was always hoping for a funky northern bassline merger to bring back 92 into the new:

That's why I felt some type of way about that FACT article about Beneath which was essentially saying UK funky was alright but what it REALLY needed was dark atmospherics and souped up production values.

well beneath was thinking of youngsta 04-05. i was thinking of adding tresillo and squeezing out the stiffness of this whilst still retaining the caustic belgian-german industrial feel. so not so much body punishing as 2010s dred house.

of course like most things in my head it will never come to fruition. the curse of being Anatolian.
