House tunes that UK funky showed us were not boring

Ah yes, had forgotten about this one, got caned by everyone at the time, especially good for mcs. Curious to know who picked up on this (south african?) tune first, it sounds so similar to what lil silva and champion were doing around the same time, dont know which came first or if its pure coincidence. Or maybe they were all just ripping off kenny dope?

Very wine bar house, maybe the worst music in the world, but i'm nevertheless quite fond of this tune and it got played a lot at the time so I'm putting it here

Wasn't "aimed" at you or anyone I just wanted to explain myself to third. I love these tunes you're posting, I'm a sucker for deep house, but the kind of tunes I had in mind were definitely more handbaggy or whatever. Which actually made it more interesting that they became credible to "serious" music heads (as I thought myself) who usually would only accept deep house as credible.

they aren't handbag that's a 90s thing.

they are Joey Negro-esque champagne popping luxury soulful house. I.E: exactly the thing everyone slates on here (deservedly) but when blackdown can put a new spin on it suddenly all critical consensus is out of the door.

this is handbag

this one starts off ok but then trudges along like something that just goes on and on and on at fucking pacha or privilege. Sure, it's got a groove, but it's sculpted to get rid of any kind of muddy sweaty warehouse feel. At least UK garage, whilst living it large, had the kids!

Welcome back Benny b

Done any mixes lately?

Not really, haven't got the time these days, unfortunately, but I did a sort of unplanned uk garage mix a little while back that I havent shared anywhere, maybe I'll put it on me mixcloud.

It's worth at least listening to and acknowledging this stuff cos it's what the demographic that were involved in Jungle, UKG and Grime first time around moved onto post-2006. Yes these tracks are mostly American or European productions and yes a lot of them ended up on Defected wine bar compilations, but in terms of a scene, this is probably one of the last authentic left in London - certainly no hipsters or art students or NTS diggers or whichever crowd we want to slag off this week at any of these nights.

Yeah that's fair enough. I guess for me I just don't like clubbing as a social activity all that much. When I go clubbing I want to be overwhelmed by heavy sound - be that at 0 bpm drone or 240 speedcore. So in that regard, unlike luke I do have a soft spot for the NTS diggers - i just wish their showhosts had more personality. But clubbing as an activity on its own .. *sniffs haughtily* it's like saying I went to the golf over the weekend isn't it? Dire, I couldn't think of anything more sad and insecure. I'm into ritual, sweat, sex and machines, so i guess I'm never going to like the mainstream of clubbing, be that the Ibiza or just4uLondon versions.
