Wild Horses
Families of those killed by the missile launched at the commercial flight in Iran are being told that if they give interviews to Farsi language media they will lose the right to have their relatives’ bodies returned.

WTF

So it turns out

The American public largely (like 2-1) shares my strong belief that publicly assassinating Soleimani def wasn't worth it

No one really cares? Turns out we're so inured after 17 years of this Americans are so inured they kinda shrugged + went back to the NFL playoffs etc

Dominated the news cycle for not even a week

And if it's not in the news I don't think Trump much cares, so...

Not that we couldn't still wind up in a v stupid war (or a worse cold war at least)

+ v cold comfort to the families of all those killed in the plane shot down as result of said cold war/saber-rattling

I understand the exasperation btw I got vexed when catalog dismissed Prynne on the basis of his having taught at Cambridge.

If some Prynne falls into my lap, I'll read him. I read that essay about metal you mentioned, can't really remember any of it. I have a problem with poetry generally I think. I prefer prose, at least to read. I go to the odd poetry reading but my mind tends to wander.

Fire sale: An Iran plant makes the US flags protesters burn

KHOMEIN, Iran (AP) — Near the hometown of the late Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, workers at a small Iranian factory diligently add all 50 stars and 13 red-and-white bars to what are supposed to be U.S. flags, and carefully imprint the blue Star of David on Israeli ones.

That’s even as all their work is destined to go up in flames.

The company Diba Parcham Khomein serves as a major producer for the American and Israeli flags constantly burned at pro-government rallies in the Islamic Republic.

what do we think of the UAE and Bahrain normalizing ties with Israel? is it real? will it lead to anything?

since I'm seeing everything through an election-year lens, i keep thinking it's a trump administration push to be able to exaggerate the situation and brag about "peace in the Middle East, mission accomplished!". on the other hand, I don't see the Middle East as that big of an issue with US voters.
