Louis Theroux

maybe that's harsh. It's a school of stealth interviewing. Give them enough rope. Jon Ronson. Theroux. Sasha Baron Cohen....
I've always wondered how they get away with this. If a person becomes well-known for mocking interviewees, he's not gonna get interviews anymore.

The scientologist must have been loving it when that happened. Successfully trolled into insanity.

Was gonna say I liked the one Theoreux did on rap, where he met Master P but then I remembered he does a rap in it, iirc. It was disgusting. White people shouldn't be allowed to rap. I think he did that thing that people who've never heard rap do, where they just rhyme words, like "eggs" with "legs". Awful. Beyond redemption.

I don't mind when it's some lad off the Gascoigne estate who spent his life in and out of prison but what I can't stand is making a joke of being a posh person rapping. It makes my skin crawl. And it's been done to death.

he's the first person i remember seeing abusing the interview situation and taking the piss out of the victim. just like ali g

Doesn't fit with the disarming thing though, false sense of security thing, it's just an excuse to be rude.

One of the main people to leave Westborough Baptist Church (of "God Hates Fags" fame) did so partly because of the reflections on her life that happened after Theroux had spent some time with them. So I think that's good.

That could happen to you after a nasty car crash though, or a bout of food poisoning

Also he did a really good follow up on the Savile show. He originally did that stay with Jimmy Savile for a weekend ooh isn't this awkward thing.

But then later when all the horrors came out he did a follow up and interviewed a bunch of Savile's victims and seemed to have a serious word with himself about whether or not he could have done things differently or noticed stuff, it was very human.

This is the thing about him, I can see someone hating his old shows but his new shows are really different.

I think even he looks back on early shows with some embarrassment now.

Obviously one of the reasons I like him is because I am a massive awkward nerd who is attracted to the idea of extreme stuff.
