the difference between fashion and style though. I'm not a fan of 40 year olds wearing print shirts and croppped trousers but equally I don't see why you should settle for a nice fleece from Officers Club and a pair of mid-blue 501s

I'm a house/techno/r&b listener but I'm also white, short, fairly effette, with skinny arms and carrying a vodka paunch, so for me to be wearing baseball caps and designer trainers would be ridiculous no matter how much those clothes are signifiers of the (sub)cultures I'm invested in
 
I don't think fashion is completely nihilistic. Like every industry it has good and bad elements but I don't think it's fair to say that fashion imagery hasn't or can't make positive impacts on it's audience.

yes of course. but its slutty and ephemeral and theres nihilism in that
