I liked Dead Souls but it didn't entirely register, some very good bits though. I took a week break in the middle and had trouble motivating myself after.

The thing about craners blog is that in the titles of his posts and the dramaturgy of its content it dares you to click away. Go ahead and click away you crude inadequate dilettante it says. There is pride in that which I respect.
I’ve never finished an article though.

That's interesting. Why can't you finish them?

Actually I did finish the one about Ezra pound and the one about the conformist

but generally I don’t have the attention span needed. When looking at the computer it’s hard. If I had them In print no problem

I thought you were subtly trying to tell me they were unreadable. Funnily enough, the one about The Conformist is probably the most unreadable one on there.

What do you mean by ‘dramaturgy’ and why does it ‘dare you to click away’?

By dramaturgy I mean the rhythm of your storytelling, how you shape the dramatic arc of the information.

basically I think your writing has a certain forensic, sober quality to it that says to the reader, oh you’ve come to learn about the subterranean political streams in Bertolucci, well here you go, no epigrammatic shorthand, no indulgent gesturing poetics, this is the work, it is the rigorous way or none

Thank you, I like that. I'm not into treating people like children, I don't belong to the Ian Dunt school.

I don't know - I mean have no idea whatsoever - if this is a joke or a lie or a literal description of the show.
Joke and literal! I would recommend watching an episode or two it's a cultural touchstone. Probably not your cup of tea having met you. But you never know! Hard tough men love GG. It was an Afghanistan favorite for US troops abroad. A little domestic cozy, some feminine chatty. "It reminds us what we're fighting to protect, what matters back home." Etc
