"Day Tripper" sounds a bit more slick than Blunt or Gast, slightly odd but not as murky or weird as those two. Only listened to it a couple of times, have to give it more time.

you might also like when i saw him live he did a really long version of this with a load of noise and edits, was absolutely brilliant.

can tell john t. gast likes both coil and jah shaka, both psychic tv and aba shanti-i. very nice, really

yeah it's all about drawing those disparate things together, like folding up the edges of a piece of cloth. worth quoting DB again here (from )

"And I think the links between music are very very clear — very very clear — and between elements in one genre that have such kind of racist undertones are so much prevalent in another. And how dub sound system culture runs through to doom metal and bass sound — like it's all the same s***. And everyone's all smoking weed and everyone's all in the church and it's all a congregation and it's all the same s***. It's all the same s***.

So I think that music's great because it makes human beings really stupid. Because it transcends any b******* that they say. It just does what it does, and it communicates past anything. So, yeah, I think genres don't really matter at all. I don't even know the names of that many genres, to be honest."

i suppose really, all this stuff is some sort of love letter to london.

mates from before innit https://www.nts.live/shows/guests/e...-w-lord-tusk-steven-julien-2nd-september-2015

mos def is a weird one really - friends with amy winehouse? i remember going to see him in the late 90s, when he was at the peak. totally can't remember any of the show. but he's always popping up here and there in london. funny one

That clip of him undergoing the force feeding procedure they used in Guantanamo Bay is one of the most upsetting things I've ever seen. Nothing but respect for him for going through with that.

Apparently Hype Williams used to have a section in their live set which was nothing but sub bass. There's that weird drone/tone bit toward the end of this too.

really really rate the last couple of lord tusk has done recently his sets have been amazing when ive seen them, loads of terrrifying sparse iron curtain synth pop alongside his kind of shaka/tnt roots dub, all these quite disparate seeming things that sit on the same grid. both those poles have a a kind of crash bandicoot death marching style bonkersness to them as well which is incredibly moving. theyre things that if you listen at home can sound quite on the edge of acceptability in ways but whenever you get a chance to hear it as designed its unstoppable really.

Probably a bad idea to mention HW/DB cos it's like I've got tourettes, but yeah, i was at the 2012 london show and it was mental. all smoke and noise, with the faintest bit of inga singing at the front, if you were near enough. mad gig. definitely a running theme. and the most recent best noise stuff is bits of babyfather. this rinse mix is the best single thing - just listen to the whole hour (starts an hour in)

all the shoutouts are hilarious (including one to lord tusk). my favourite is when he tells ppl complaining on twitter about his club night, where it was girls free entry til 11, to go back to emmerdale. BEAUT.

The new lord tusks are bossman, i just wish he would sing a bit more. His vocals are good, but hes sparing with em.

Theres a tune on one of them that makes me think of robert wyatt. I think hes actually a bit of a touchstne artist for all these guys, dean blunt, gast, tusk. That relentless experimentation and proper artist thing.

Gast on keys on number 6
