Always pigeons to watch. They look so depressed in winter just sort of standing there fuck all to do.

They're from tesco. It's good to have living things in the house even if they're barely clinging to existence. There's solidarity there.

I come out of hospital and no joke I feel reborn. The buzz lasts a while too. It's religious.

Seriously man. Up until yesterday I had my own room which I liked but definitely added to the cabin fever vibe. Been semi bed ridden for most of it too, hence all my activity on here. All over a little surgery on my leg. Yesterday they told me I had to move to a ward and I didn't like it so I almost checked out but then I realised I only had 2 days left I thought I may as well ride it out. Cut to last night and that giant cromag up above was snoring like a fucken warthog. Luckily I'd invested in some industrial grade ear plugs a few days earlier and managed to get a decent amount of z's. I'm not cut out for sharing a room anymore. Was the same in hostels in Brasil. Hey ho, tomorrow I'm outski.

Darned cockwombles.
haha, you got me.

what is it about Austrians - I watched the trailer for the (Austrian horror) film Goodnight Mommy yesterday, and it was one of the most unhinged things I've ever seen. Made the trailer for Midsommar, which I'd just watched beforehand, look perfectly reasonable, just a casual spot of cult slaughter under the midnight sun (or whatever happens, I haven't seen it yet).

Haneke says some interesting things about Austria, the suppression of guilt over the Third Reich. Not sure if they've had the same sort of confrontation with it the Germans did. (Course this might be bollocks but that's what I think I recall Haneke saying.)

In 1946, the provisional Austrian government, recognised by the Allies after the previous year's surrender, published the Red-White-Red book, an attempt to show that Austria was culturally completely separate from "Prussian" Germany, and should be treated as "the first victim" of nazism, "left in the lurch by the whole world", rather than as a perpetrator of atrocities. The book was an early step in a deliberate national policy of obscuring Austria's Nazi history, and the flag, with its connotations of violence, religious faith, purity and innocence, has played a role both in cementing the Austrian second republic as a cohesive nation state, and in burying many things the country's elite would rather forget about the Anschluss, the war and the subsequent decade of allied occupation.

They say over 90% of Austrians identify as Nazi to this day compared to a mere 69% of Germans.
