just think it's odd that in those places where you can easily grow some coffee beans the people ain't really that interested in it.

In his (hand)book the Psychic Soviet Ian Svenoionus (whatever) says that countries have a vampiric desire to feed on the drink of their defeated foes - hence the rise of the popularity of vodka in the US after 1989 and he makes a similar case for the popularity of coffee and some other drinks too I think.
