Mass shootings

Aaaaand another one:

  • A "person of interest": Lewiston police have identified 40-year-old Robert Card of Bowdoin as a person of interest, saying he should be “considered armed and dangerous." Law enforcement officials in Maine say Card is a certified firearms instructor and a member of the US Army Reserve. Card had recently made threats to carry out a shooting at a National Guard facility in Saco, Maine, and also reported mental health issues, including hearing voices, the officials said.

"No way to prevent this", etc. etc. etc.

So this guy killed at least sixteen people and is now still wandering around, presumably armed - and it doesn't even make the main headline... what?

You mean in terms of not drawing attention to it and inadvertently providing a platform for violent people like that to gain notoriety?
@chava is working on the basis that one of the victims was likely to have been a Muslamic would-be terrorist who could have been on his way to commit an even worse atrocity, so on balance the shooting has probably saved lives, in a trolley-problem kind of way.

Well I don't know, maybe that dead would-be terrorist would have gone on to kill an even more dangerous would-be terrorist, thus rendering this first shooter's act a net-negative in terms of human costs.

Damn, that's a good point!

So ambiguous is this consideration that the NSA here established the Nth Order Counter-Terrorism Unit for Research 'N Execution, who have developed a fool-proof chaos-theory-based praxis of flipping a coin to decide whether or not to detain a given target.

Since IS ceased zapping France the nice and ongoing terrorism thread never quite rears its ambiguous head

Americans shooting each other up is a given but no-one’s topped the Bataclan have they, bunch of amateurs

Leticia James has obviously been in the news a lot cos of the Trump corruption trial she won. And of course that wasn't enough, after winning and demonstrating his corruption she seemed determined to ramp up the punishment, both in terms of the size of the fine and the restrictions placed on his further behaviour. This has of course made her a hero to some and... er, not a hero to others let's say.

But just as she is gleefully crunching Trump's beanbag in the one hand, it appears that the other has been equally well employed in going after the NRA. This case has been going on for some time I believe with the NRA trying to dismiss it and move it to courts they like better and so on and so forth (interesting tactics, they seem kinda familiar somehow), but it hasn't really worked and now we're finally reaching what you might call the business end of things I guess.

Wayne LaPierre has been the leader of the NRA for bloody ages but he stepped down on Friday and I guess that that resignation was perhaps not unrelated to the trial, now one of his aides has agreed to pay $100,000 and, well I dunno what's happening next but there are a number of other defendants and so on.... oh I was gonna link to a story in a newspaper there, but unfortunately it's a dangerously subversive underground paper and so any mention of it is now taboo, so you'll just have to google for the story yourselves, good luck guys, I hope you can find it....

If you read what's going on it seems that they are being busted, not for any of the actions of the NRA, but for good old fashioned corruption. It turns out that the NRA is actually registered as a charity (which thoughtfully raises money for the murder of school children - and others of course, they are equal opportunities killers) and these sickos have been stealing from a charity for their own luxury.

I dunno how much overlap there is between those who support the NRA and those who support Trump, but I can imagine that if there is anyone out there who loves guns and shooting people AND who also happens to be part of the cult of moron, James is pretty much their most hated person in the whole world right now.

With perfect timing Trump is campaigning in Iowa today and cos of events that occurred there it's inevitable that what he says will be of relevance to the NRA and their supporters... in fact he offered some tender words of comfort regarding a local mass shooting

“It’s just horrible – so surprising to see it here. But we have to get over it. We have to move forward.”

Yep, come on guys, stop harping on about it already, that was yesterday, today is a new day!
