I dunno whether it has any significance but I've noticed that time appears to slow just before a catastrophic event.

I looked out the window on my side, saw this car coming toward me and something just seemed off, couldn't put my finger on it, but my stomach just dropped and it seemed to be moving in slow motion then it suddenly smacked into my door, everything sped up and I went flying all over the car, smacked my head off both back seat windows, the roof and landed half in the foot well.

I used to hear the time dilation thing from martial artists who'd actually made a thing of fighting for real. An interesting experience to have had, no doubt. Hope you - and anyone else involved - are okay.

Cheers. Everyone was fine, just a bit shaken up and the door was all mashed in.

He was on mushrooms I can't remember why they came round but he picked up a length of wood and bashed em. He's still got them scars from when they got their own back though.

He was about 16 when it happened. Top lad. Very strong. One of those lads that are naturally freakishly strong despite not really looking it.

I had a mate like that in school. Not only was he freakishly strong but he also had a knack for getting himself into trouble.

I suppose if you're a natural lightning rod for aggro then you might as well be fairly tasty in a fight as well.

True, although I dunno which came first. The main thing I remember about him is being at a club in town when we were all like sixteen, seventeen and him knocking out the bouncer.

I'm sure I've heard this in relation to top athletes too, things like the ball looking larger than usual and moving more slowly in tennis. I find when I watch Messi it looks as though he experiences the game differently to everyone else, he's able to take touches that there just doesn't seem to be time for.

I think that's quite reductive.

I don't think generalisations are necessarily reductive. if people are motivated by some drive or desire (whether it's lizard-brain stuff or something more rarified) it doesn't mean that's the *only* thing motivating them (people are subject to multiple contradictory drives), it doesn't mean everyone is subject to the same drives in the same way, and it doesn't mean people are automatons who are completely determined by their desires.

humans are quite a violent species, imo. that's why there's so much history knocking around. that's not all they are, of course, and there's also the question of how much of it is nature and how much is nurture, but either way it certainly seems to be a part of us

There's possibly a sprinkling of guilt somewhere in all this, a desire for punishment rather than just catastrophe.

self-flagellation, original sin and sacrifice by way of abstinence and fasting are recurring themes throughout history. we've lost that in the secular age.

no fap, cinnamon challenge, ice bucket challenge, etc. are returns to this.
