Compare the humans in toy story 1 to toy story 4

Only by replicating imperfections and textures could Pixar make humans that we could relate to as human and not as weird, perfectly smooth robots. (I'm thinking of luka's shining one thread here. All the threads being pulled together.)

This is why jungle remains so emotionally involving and "warm" however "dark" it gets. It's sampled drums. Weird inconsistencies crop up. It doesn't feel like a machine but like a weird genetic experiement.

a video of turkemenistan's president dj'ing this years new year party was posted some weeks ago but apparently was taken offline. i could only find this tiny bit:

the original video is an hour long and features guest musicians and rappers. he explains the crowd what a controller is, how to mix music and what special effects and samples are. it's very cheerful. anyway, it's the lighting, glitter and shiny surfaces that got my attention. it looks like the kind of aesthetic the safdie brothers are pursuing, a film shot through a diamond. colourful lights bouncing in every direction. the same kind of aesthetic you find in turkish furniture stores, or shops for wedding dresses. strangely, it does make me think of los angeles as well. although i can't really articulate why.

it's that garish, everything that glitters is gold thing. the darkness of our souls expressed through useless, expensive design flourishes with no taste whatsoever. dubai is a city built on this ethos.

this ones a little different. the chrome thread is about uniform substances this thread is about light and refractions

version's thread has an existential bend, its about a geist, a feeling. my thread is pure phenomenological response. its about objects and sensuality.

'Winter Warz' took some cues from this thread too. There's a web of connections between that one, The Surface, Moscow Lightwork, the Mobb Deep discussion the other day, Barty's Crystalline thread and Linebaugh's CHROME.

I've recently been picturing a given body of work like a web of connections, perhaps like a pass map from a football match, with each, say, Autechre album being a given point with a load of lines connecting them all based on the order in which you encountered them, how many times you've listened to them and so on.

It's interesting to consider how the order impacts your view of the whole. Would a different order change your view in any way? Does engaging with the material over time gradually overwrite your own idiosyncratic order until it settles into the original order they appeared in? If you read Ulysses prior to Portrait then become very familiar with them, does Portrait eventually slot itself in front of Ulysses regardless?

I'd be interested to see what a map of Dissensus would look like.

Have we got a thread about windows? I won't start one, but was just thinking now, as I was sat outside having a fag, how stained glass was like an old school way to obscure people looking in but also to obviously colour light, and look nice of course.

And now you tend to have frosted glass instead, which is just worse in every way.
