my impression of him is if he's anything in Russia he's a would-be court philosopher with little to no influence on or access to the court
kinda like how the Nazi inner circle found it useful to publicly promote Alfred Rosenberg while privately holding his ideas in contempt
except that Rosenberg even aside from his theories was a significant Nazi figure (and major Holocaust perpetrator)
whereas Dugin as public figure seems to be closer to like a better-educated Russian Alex Jones crossed with a fair bit of Julius Evola

A con artist and nothing else. The fact that the West take him seriously is an indictment of the lack of a concrete objection to fascism in western countries. Most western antifascists only reject such ideas superficially. Spin them in queer pagonist, postcolonial, let a hundred nationalities bloom, patriotic anarchist, and they're all over them.
