The live experience is a big part of his appeal for me. I was unconvinced until I went to the dome show in 2012 and there was so much smoke the music was irrelevant

Got a link?

to chadourne's credit he did use what i think is one of ptv's better 'pop' songs in the same video. btw I'm all for wholesale sampling, detournement, sturtevantian copy, undermining intellectual property etc. when its lost on some of those most eager to be perceived as 'in the know', or treated with an air of scandal (for journalistic effect) as some singular alien character trait of an elusive individual... i guess when its cool-consumptive reputation seems to outweigh its joyful-critical potential, i wonder about the integrity of these practices breaking down.

that being said, imo what this guy does at the formal level, and also in terms of his work's 'social commentary' content or what have you, most artists and listeners are way too behind to really appreciate in a larger sense than, 'ha wow what a prankster!'... too attached to songwriting, 'bands', lyrics, 'creative expression', watching someone play an instrument, base aesthetic or emotional appeal, and 'personal connections' with the music. dean blunt is one of the few popular artists actually working like he lives in the year 2020. i mean he has a bit of fun on the PR front cus he knows its a stupid game, and all the press can do is hyperbolize and will the man into some ridiculous legendary obscurity, assuring us his thoughts and feelings are likely incomprehensible to mere mortal consumers

"The project is, most of all, a fascinating peek into the psyche of man [sic] who we are still miles away from understanding, and when I listen to I [sic] can only see a man in the distance getting farther and farther as I try to get closer." - https://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/21702-bbf-hosted-by-dj-escrow/
