Last time I cooked squash in a cream and mustard sauce with a griddled pork chop while at the same time baking a birthday cake for my daughter. Fun but a bit knackering.

The sauce for the squash came out a bit disappointing. I cooked the squash in stock for an hour plus, took out squash and reduced the liquid it a lot (tasted great at this stage), then added mustard and cream. The cream (double) just seemed to make it too runny rather than the sauce like consistency I wanted. Anyone got any tips?

Here in Portugal they sell in the supermarkets these weird kinda meat roll things, almost like a meat loaf but with the meat rolled up around either some chorico or cheese or whatever. We bought one of those but with a farineira sausage in the middle (I think those are sausages without pork but with another meat and flour inside, I believe they were created by jews to pretend they were eating pork and thus not get caught up in the pogroms of King Alphonse the Stupid or whoever it was) and now we're roasting that with a load of veg such as turnips and peppers and taters and stuff. Starter of the leftover prawn chowder from the other day - gonna enjoy all that while watching England v Montenegro on the telly, perfect Thursday evening.

I had chips and spring rolls from the Chinese takeaway. I felt cold. Wanted something warming and easy.

our cats are total scavengers, we can't leave any food unattended. the big dumb male cat once ate a small ball of used tin foil, I discovered this the next day when scooping the litter box. that must have been a bit uncomfortable.

Mate of mine's Labrador ate about 18 feet of tinsel one Christmas and curled out festive reminders well into the New Year

I don't really know. Couldn't say. If I had to hazard a guess it would be that it's sphincter based. Loose sphincter?

went to a local Persian restaurant, had lamb shank with saffron basmati rice, lima beans and dill. slow cooked so it just fell off the bone. i don't eat meat more than two or three times a month but still love it.

Was pretty spicy. High grade noodles and a wee packet of seaweed and some veg. Lovely soup. Haven't tried the shin cup, but somehow I don't see it making me leave my beloved green curry flavor any time soon.

3.5/5

Nah it'll be to do with enzymes and gut bacteria. Think about it - if the bacteria in your guts are making lots of gas then it's got to get out somehow. Even if you had superhuman sphincter control and could hold it in indefinitely, you'd eventually just explode.

Actually my dad has superhuman sphincter control, or something close to it. To my knowledge he has never, ever farted - or involuntarily, at least. I think he just saves it up for when he goes to the toilet.

He seems to think that if he can do this, anyone should be able to. I suspect that he has always held my brother and me slightly in contempt because we haven't inherited this ability.
