@IdleRich's posts are for the most part short and readable. I suspect the occasional 8,000-word single paragraph posts are the result of certain indulgences.

Just choked on some chocolate and ended up coughing and blowing loads of it out of my nose. Dunno quite what happened, but my left tonsil kills now and the stuff only came out of my left nostril. I've had to take a cough sweet to take the edge off. Terrible. Felt like when you get water up your nose, but smelled like chocolate and I had to blow really hard to get it out.

Haven't had it yet. I'm on the waiting list. I expect it'll be a while what with second lockdown and the mess the hospitals are in.

I love cherry coke. The most 1980s non-alcoholic drink.

I enjoyed it so much, you know how sometimes you make the perfect cup of tea at the perfect time and your sitting there drinking it unable to believe how good it is, this portal to paradise, that's what that cherry coke was like

Yes it's a pseudo-opiate with some SNRI properties. Probably about the scale of opiate that kratom or poppyseed tea is—if you really wanna go hard I guess you can nod but, it's more like a cup of coffee than amphetamines, IME.

I had an operation once and they gave me some tramadol as painkillers afterwards... no warning or anything but after I took 'em for a week or so and stopped I had a real withdrawal. Quite unpleasant.
My friend who is a nurse liberated a load from work and he used to bring it out when we met up. Strange mix of an upper and a downer type feeling. I guess like alcohol which is a downer but as it lowers your inhibitions etc can actually make you more manic.

Caught me by surprise cos normally in the UK they spend ages warning about the potentially horribly addictive properties of anything at all they prescribe you, but they gave me this one with no caution at all and I rolled off on my merry way boshing them like sweets for a week or two. Unless possibly I was too out of it after the operation to properly take in what they told me.
But yeah, I remember, on the day I stopped taking them, I was helping out a friend with a sort of hipster jumbles sale stall and selling a few things there too I think, kinda looking forward to just a gentle day chilling and maybe having the odd coffee or beer, chatting to people you know, nothing major but probably a bit of fun. But I just felt awful all day, like the worst flu, sat on my stall barely communicating with people, feeling totally washed out and so on. Unpleasant. But I didn't realise why until later.

Sheeit yeah that sounds about right. A younger SWIM tried to wean off a couple-month morphine habit with a week of high O-desmetramadol, which is what tramadol is a pro-drug to, and bit himself in the ass, it got way worse than it had to be, was about the state you described for 2-3 weeks, sleepless for the first week of it. Feel about it about like what someone here said about delirium tremens, being glad you went through it.
