I'm dying to visit Portugal again, the only time was 13 years ago. back then, the people were excited and hopeful of Obama replacing bush, the prices were cheaper than most anywhere else in Europe, and we rarely ran into any America tourists in the nearly three weeks we were there.

were you guys there in 2008, @IdleRich?

Nah.... we first went there for a visit in maybe 2015 or 2016 and we moved in 2021. If you do make it over to Lisbon it would be great, we can meet up, show you the good places to go and so on.

you didn't live there before this year? I thought surely you'd been there for at least a few years.

Sorry I was obviously distracted then and wrote total bollocks (not for the first time).... we moved in 2018, really dunno where that came from.

I mean sometimes if someone is talking I find myself randomly inserting what they say into the email or whatever I am writing but I don't think anyone said "2021" just then so....

skillfully done, @catalog.

any rhubarb fans here? it's seasonal, need to get it early before it starts to get a little woody tasting. the wife makes a great compote, leave it in the fridge after and add a few spoonfuls to the morning overnight oats for bfast, or over a scoop of creamy vanilla ice cream.

also a good time for clementines. sweet, refreshing, and smaller than a regular orange, just right.

It's long and thin,
Covered in skin
Red in parts
And goes in tarts
Rhubarb

Yeah I like it. Mum used to do a mean rhubarb crumble. But like gooseberries it's a sharp taste that you don't see that much these days.

gooseberries! the wife is always going on about how you can't find them in the states, wonder why (I mean, our market has shrimp from from Vietnam and off-season tomatoes from Peru). I've never had them but yeah, she says they have a similar tart flavor.

Bloody love it, stewed and served over yoghurt with honey on top.

Maybe even more so in fact, you really gotta stew them with some sugar or serve with something very sweet. Perhaps an acquired taste but like Ollie says with rhubarb, with yoghurt or ice cream etc can work well.

yeah, you have to use a fair amount of sugar when making the rhubarb compote too.

Rhubarb crumble and a spoon of ice-cream. Use brown sugar and oats for crumb. Same with gooseberries, or just say fuck it and go for a old school buttery crumble instead. None of that spray cream you Americans cheat with ;) . Bit heavy for summer but I’d annihilate a bowl right now

Tonight’s hellzone after 12hour shift - roast veg, ginger/garlic/soy sauce/lime/turmeric prawns, noodles. Cut your ginger into thin sticks for heavier punch

Girlfriend has discovered a "proper English chippie" in Lisbon and cos she was hungover today she insisted in going there for lunch. It was fine and everything but a plate of chips and a battered cumberland sausage is not really what I want when it's 35 degrees... and a couple of beers too, I wanted to nap when I got home. She's gone out for dinner with a friend.

I'm eating an Artificial Pork Bone Soup Flavor Instant Noodle (sic.). It has the longest ingredients list I've ever seen on a food product and contains 109% of my RDA of salt.

Wish me luck.
