"11 Songs That Define Chicago Drill, the Decade’s Most Important Rap Subgenre"

I know drill was a different sound in some ways, but it always appeared to me a natural offshoot of Atlanta Trap - certainly Lex Luger's brand of it.

I went down a rabbit hole of Chicago gang YouTube videos when Von got killed. There's a whole online fan culture around it, presumably largely suburban white nerds, keeping tabs on number of bodies dropped etc.

Same thing with UK drill. There's no separation between the killings, shootings, stabbings, jail sentences, police chases and the music. It's all part of the same entertainment package.

used to be the case where if somebody was into all this stuff at least as far as "i only listen to rappers who actually have bodies on them" you were seen as a disturbed weirdo now it's a cottage industry

there's nuff people at this point who talk about "smoking on Tooka" not realising its referring to a dead 15 year old

growing up with all this stuff i was told to mind my own business at least as far as what's going on in other peoples endz with postcode beef and its everybody's business now, i feel like this is why especially with the Quando Rondo stuff there's a growing resentment of rappers towards their fans specifically street rappers because it feels like they goad and provoke rappers of people in their camps to do incriminating stuff or speculate and amass all this info on them through the combination of news reports,insta/snap chat and general hearsay.

you go on places like TheColi and it feels like the guys on there have done a better job at figuring out all the players involved in 2pac's shooting better than the police did

One of Barty's bits I like is that uk drill is the etheralisation of mobb deep. He didn't use that that's my clever addition but that's the argument, it lifts the mood-tone into a non corporeal zone

I did some very heavy drinking and weed smoking with Fat Jim the other day and we had it on loud and it's very haunted music.

the kinship with burial was noted really early on. It's burial made good, even down to the south London soil.

it’s time for you to acknowledge his brilliance. There was a time when we were weighed down by that morose sentimentality and the anti burial stance was necessary but were beyond it
