UBI is interesting because it really signals the end of capitalism, or at least this stage of capitalism. And the supposition is that workers are no longer necessary. The system has other ways to sustain itself. What that might mean for us, ie those deemed surplus to requirements, who knows but it's disquieting to say the least. I can't imagine we'll just be kept like domestic animals out of some kind of sentimental impulse.

I've always felt that Soylent Green is how the future's likely to turn out. The rich holed up in their luxury housing, everyone else living in overcrowded accommodation, sleeping on the stairs, no wildlife, euthanasia centres etc.
