I was saying to Edmunds yesterday about how abruptly eras end. It was in reference to Wu Tang specifically. How they go from globe straddling to irrelevant almost overnight. Wu Tang Forever comes out, is a pile of shit, and that's the end of that. Puff Daddy, shiny suits, Ruff Ryders, Swizz, Timbaland, Mannie Fresh, The Neptunes, a new world.

The end of the age of opposition and the counter culture, the beginning of convergence and capitalist realism

From gritty to glitzy from depth to surface. And it happens overnight. It's intriguing.

It's a division within the 90s that happened overnight, an about face, a 180 degree turn. The ructions it caused were more obvious in America, here we just went with it maybe becuase here no one was making money, it was just at an aesthetic level?

Spine tingle mind boggle.

I Don't know if you can map this stuff onto political and economic changes of the time becuase I have no idea what was happening then. But there's definitely an overnight change in terms of culture and aesthetics

Hottest decade on record though. And you've gotta have the boredom before something happens, we all know that.

Yeah, definitely not been boring. Perhaps it's not boring enough to need the distraction of an arbitrary time marker.

One could say maybe the counter culture energy has shifted into politics or is that just a bollocks thesis? Might be true with some of the younger Corbyn fans in 2017.

(PS I'm open to it being a bollocks thesis and also the idea that politics is for boring old people)

Went canvassing again today. The most dispiriting interaction was with a couple who were on universal credit, one small kid (that I could see, could've been more), house in a bit of a state, saying they'd always voted Labour in the past but weren't this time, as "the Conservatives are better on Brexit". They didn't actually say they were going to vote Conservative either, but fucking hell. These people think Brexit is going to solve their problems?

You've got to hand it to the cunts who've perpetrated all this. They've pulled off the con job of the century.

It's weird what a non-event leaving the 2010s is.

There some truth in that. There aren't even much "This was the decade" things. Unlike in late 2009. Plenty of "This was the 2000s" back then. People have accepted to live in the perpetual present.

This is why the Tories are trying to make everything about Brexit. They're drawing people in who don't agree with any of their policies, but want Brexit done. It's apparently a big enough issue that overrides everything.
