all i would say is that of the four users who i'd consider having been honed in on by third, three of us have lost our tempers with him on the forum multiple times and the other one was chased off the forum for a month and has now got third's posts muted so they don't even see them.

maybe it doesn't look as frustrating on the outside, but for all four of us to have such reactions does suggest it's not just a case of me being too susceptible to provocation.

Fair enough.

I mean this is a bit intriguey now not gonna lie. who is that poster that was chased off the forum?

I mean I have severe mental health issues and that can impair my memory but I'm struggling to think about who was forced to mute my posts.

obviously i can't say who and to be honest i wouldn't worry about that part of it too much; i think their reaction was extreme.

however maybe do have a think about this quality of honing in on specific users. it might be more frustrating than you realise it is.

of course i shouldn't be so bellicose with you as well. this evening if i'd bit my tongue, been patient and plowed on this wouldn't have happened.

lets both try to do a bit better next time.

Sure. though I can say (without naming names) there are posters you and luke have alienated from the group dynamic of the forum (and they were some of my favourite posters which i always thought had very valuable contributions.) I'm sure I don't need to say who. 'throwaway let's see if it sticks' pretentious ideas are great but sometimes it's better to read 3 thought out posts than 6 half formed ones (to be fair to you your posts are generally very well thought out.)

Anyhow, good night.

I'd argue part of the fun's doing the work on the forum, teasing things out, teeing each other up, throwing balls up for others who might know how to whack 'em. I know when I make threads I'm basically just trying to get other people to say interesting things I haven't thought of. I'm not that interested in what I have to say about them.

sure but sometimes it can foster a comment economy logic where the person with the most witty one liner ideas has a higher estimation in the forum than the boring humourless gabber terrorist curmudgeon :D

also that comment about 1970s turkish schmaltz has me shook ngl. like garden of delete is high academic schmaltz, just shifting through youtube detritous to make sound collage. why can't I rehabilitate my ancestral schmaltz?

that was a rough one. it crossed a line.

apparently after 9/11 all these jihadists were going "fucking hell osama, that's a bit much". it was a bit like that.

i do worry about that.

as i've said to third a million times in private, there was a time when the forum was really moribund i did this thing of starting loads of contentious threads as a way to stimulate engagement. it worked a charm, but i think the combativeness of it eventually sowed the seeds for some people feeling the forum wasn't for them anymore.

i've tried to fix it since. have these hugely broad threads that anyone can engage with regardless of their age, taste, interests, etc.

The thing you have to watch out for with that, is whether people can sense it being a forced effort. Because then it has the inverse effect to the one intended. Not saying this applies to you specifically. But in my experience, you can't force the gold. It just happens when it happens. You end up with endless 3-5 page threads that go through the motions, staying in the middle of the road, dulling the edges of our blades. Again, not aimed at you specifically. More just that ethos. We have to treat this place with tenderness and care in the end. It's a delicate balance that gets the good stuff happening. Better to just let it happen than force it. And third needs to stfu :p

what offends people is I'm coming in here and saying it's really not that deep and its pure modular music that just occupies an ambient zone. that goes against both the continuum (and soul/authenticity) orthodoxy of the mainstream being something the underground is in perpetual dialogue with. that simbiotic relationship between the two is much less overt these days.

Nah third. That's not it. We keep explaining it to you. You keep trying to making all the threads about your own thing. It derails the flow. It stops us reaching those highs of yesteryear. I say this with respect to you, because I know that you mean well, and you're a smart mf'er and can be a strong asset to the board when you're in your element. But it would be much more conducive to keeping things flowing if you thought a little bit more before you hit reply. I'm not asking you to change or anything. Just maybe ask yourself whether what you want to say is going to add or subtract from the flow.

Ultimately it's very easy to stop things moving to be an obstacle and impediment to lie in the road and refuse to budge. It's very easy to stop a group from working and to prevent any work being done. It's very easy to sabotage the machine but it's very destructive. The joy comes from making it work, see the impossible contraption start whirring into gear and generating power.

Yeah alright all ideas are pretentious rubbish but nobody wants to just sit in a circle being miserable and saying life is boring and futile. It's a bit of a downer. Better to build up a vibe like the garage MCs say. Get a bit of life into the thing.

Shift perspective. Put a new pair of lenses on. Not get stuck with the same oppressive totalising worldview of ultimate crapness and futility. Oh woe is me what a world. Everything's been done before and nothing new can ever happen.
