the tricky/dean blunt mode is one of resistance, absolutely.
that's the pool of insurgents carol needs to enlist for her revolution. the very sedateness intended to impose order has ended up completely destroying the social contract. cultural anarchy.
as someone who used to be in this pool it's not a revolution i see materialising

the way out of social anxiety as control mechanism is not a baseline of sedated medication but the cannabinoid mode of alertness, connective schizophrenia, quiet religious mania, hypergraphia and compulsive creativity.

there are also aspects of music of 'the xanax zone' that can be rescued when one ventures into that zone with this mindset.

lots of keef's mixtape stuff but, again, 'forgiatos' in specific is, on the surface, beholden to the xanax zone, but it's actually polysubstance. ballout's verse is a false start; it's not really ballout's song. capo's verse has that same duck and weave/boxing feeling of something like 'moscow lightwork'. the 100% blown out instrumental is the grandeur of smoke rings and the warm cinammon syrupiness of liquor, the stank of skunk and tobacco in equal measure in a hemp paper, the wiggling op-art closed eye vistas of tramadol. everything is available. celebratory. like christmas.

early future and Prime Young Thug, t-pain in general are also Machinic and Zoned Out without succumbing to the death drive, they're at a sweet spot, there's definite continuity w the neptunes/heatmakers/etc. stuff that initially inspired this thread.

main attrakionz and spaceghost purrp are in that polysubstance sweet spot where the Swedish 'cloud rap' Shit feels like it misses that

i'm gonna be 100% honest and say a lot of this is feeling like i'm implicitly expected by other Perpetually Logged On Young "QUEER" "FEMININE" People to be excited about the shit i'm complaining about here or not be able to participate in their discussions, and trying to set against something slightly 'older' that feels prematurely discarded, simply because they're pushing a novel permutation/combination
this is still the future (musically)
just as much as this is
even if they're separated from each other by 3 years and the newest is 7 years old
this stuff shouldn't feel like it 'expires' so quickly
maybe i just need to listen to more 'actually new' music idk

"The American vice of modular repetition, combined with what is perhaps our basic search: to find something that can kill intense pain without causing addiction. "Results have not been encouraging. We seem up against a dilemma built into Nature, much like the Heisenberg situation. There is nearly complete parallelism between analgesia and addiction. The more pain it takes away, the more we desire it. It appears we can't have one property without the other, any more than a particle physicist can specify position without suffering an uncertainty as to the particle's velocity. . ."

Pynchon is absolutely perfect here!

Not altogether sure what yer saying here. The juelz Santana song is gimmicky/humour, I can't help thinking of nelly. The space ghost tune better but there's nothing futuristic about it, to me

Carol, you able to come up with another post like the first one to right the ship and get us back on course? We're drowning in quaaludes and catalog's visceral hatred of hip-hop here.

I probably don't like quite a lot of hip hop, but equally there's not a lot of hip hop on that list. I mean james Ferraro? Alot of the stuff I do really like has an influence of hip hop bit is not the thing itself.
