I think he may actually have been a precursor to Trump in some ways. Everyone was glued to him for those few months where he was on a tear.

Part of the vigilant citizen mythos is the ritualistic humiliation of the formerly chosen. Brittney
Spears shaving her head. Kanye in the sunken place.

For a long time it looked like vigilant citizen wouldn't touch neon demon. There was no hidden symbolism there. It was just the filming of the mythological system he helped disseminate. EVentually he did but without much enthusiasm. I'd say it's been downhill ever since.

Great South Park episode about this. They make explicit that Britney is the May Queen or whatever, raised up and celebrated, hounded to insanity and then, ultimately, sacrificed to the gods (of what?) to ensure the survival of society for a while as the cycle begins again with a new victim. Though if that last bit happened in real life I missed it.

That sounds a lot like the masonic king kill 33 ritual. Some people say that's how Whitney Houston was taken out. An offering to the gods. She died in the same hotel and on the same night Clive Davis was throwing a party for her successor. He even knew she was dead while the party was going on. Lots more details that make it all the more crazy but I'll leave that to the curious to find out for themselves.

Well it's definitely not an original idea, was surprised to see them cover it in South Park though. Also that film... Starry Eyes - is that right Luka? - has similar themes. Arguably Neon Demon too, wonder who first came up with the idea.

Ah no sorry I wasn't clear, I know that the idea of the sacrifice who is first feted and treated as a king but finally killed goes back to time immemorial - I'm pretty sure that it took place in Ancient Britain, the Middle East and also in Inca or Aztec culture too. But what I'm specifically interested in here is who first suggested the parallel between that film stars (or whatever) who are similarly feted and then destroyed - and when did it change from being a metaphor describing their function to a conspiracy theory with people believing it's actually literally true.

It's a piece of writing. About the JFK assassination. I'm at work but I'll see if I can find it
