Cyclic temporality is another way of managing ontological non-consistency: it happened this way (owls) on the nth run, and this way (flowers) on the n-plus-oneth, but they are all permutations within a static pattern of superposed virtualities. This seems like a very plausible reading of the Wake!

there's too much information to resolve into a stable image of reality. and none of us are clever enough or have the training to understand and interpret it in any case. the way this thread collapses into a mass of competing graphs and numbers for instance

A Baudrillardian hyperreal supplants this messy reality through the manufacture of representations.

When a hyperreal representation is criticised on account of its lack of verisimilitude, the response is that (mendacious) clarity is preferable to veridical confusion.

That sort of response also implies that the speaker is a wise old head who can tell that the idiots below him will inevitably be thrown into a muddle by any kind of complexity, and that he's only doing this for their own good: the noble lie.

on the other hand as a thought experiment imagine if there was a lethal infectious disease rife and you didnt know what the fuck was going on but you knew people were catching it and dying might it be a good idea to focus on clear messaging? in that hypothetical scenario that is

The current situation is that (a subset of) the people know more than is mentioned in the messaging and feel that the authorities are being evasive. Continuing to push simplistic messages only confirms this impression for them, though it might prevent those in the thrall of the party line from digging any deeper.

One advantage of dialling down the simplification is that flip-flopping is considered more acceptable (as the people have already been shown that the situation is complicated/uncertain).

its interesting you cant answer the question. its not so much that i see it as evasive its more that its indicative of the type of mind you have and where your blind spot is

Gorr attacked Chronux to lay claim to the Pool of Forevers and used the blood of the Time Gods to traverse the timestream. He went back to the beginning of the universe and slew one of the very first elder gods, taking the infant deity's heart as a trophy. He then headed forward in time millennia into the future and arrived in Earth-14412, claiming a desolate world to serve as his base of operations and enslaving all the gods he could capture except for All-Father Thor, who he routinely tormented over his failures. Over the next nine-hundred years, Gorr forced the enslaved gods to mine broken planets and the cores of stars for material to build the Godbomb, which he intended to use to exterminate all gods across the entirety of the timestream

does anyone else notice a distinct tingle of poignancy about those memes that say

"woah, you took quite a fall there, did you hurt your head? brexit? trump president? global pandemic? what are you talking about? come one, it's 2008 and the sun is out. we're all going to listen to this new kanye west album and hear president obama's speech"
