What Does Spiritual Mean?

I don't really know what that would entail tbh.

A particular category of experience you distinguish from other categories of experience. Some songs might make you feel sexy, or morose, or fruity, or vaguely spiritual.

Yeah, but what does spiritual mean in this context? Moved? Connected to something on a higher/deeper level?

What does spiritual mean to you? Your answer is, nothing. Which is fine. A lot of people would say the same thing.

what's weird is that many of these concept artists like Deleuze and Guatarri, who have railed against concepts in art.

What is it? What does it do? I'm not opposed to the idea. Perhaps I believe in it too. I can't exactly remember. There's a state specific memory problem with this stuff to a degree.

well it's some abstract thing that makes you you, something that can never be reduced or erased.

What do you mean?

bad phrasing, many concept artists have affinity for deleuze, but deleuze hates concept art..

He says that art contains no information or communication and that for example thinking that a photograph is art is an ontological mistake

Oh. I didn't know that. Where's he say that? The Francis Bacon book? How does that relate to whatever the spiritual might be?

Here's some of his views on it. I know one of the quotes i'm thinking of is from a speech he gave to a graduating class of filmmakers or something.

It relates because my point is that leftist spirituality has taken it's theories (like Deuluze), that doesn't reject spirituality but speaks to its importans, and decomposed them into an all-pervasive attitude that does reject spirituality

the most prolific manifestation of such attitudes being fashionable irony and concept art

Yes, I think there's been a misunderstanding there certainly. But if you haven't had contact with that dimension of life, or haven't imagined it into being within yourself, then that's probably inevitable.

I treat it like I do science or history or anything else. I just find it interesting, but don't have any real engagement with it beyond observation. You give me a sacred text and an article about music and I'll read them broadly the same way -- it's all flat to me. I haven't had any notable spiritual experiences that I can recall.

All flat is interesting because often what people understand by the word spiritual involves levels. Higher state of consciousness. Not flat state of consciousness.

I just struggle to place that stuff on a higher plane and tend to go by whether I find something useful/interesting. Internet brain. They're all just tools like YouTube videos, memes and whatever else to me.
