What Does Spiritual Mean?

But it's also because I think my sense of spirituality is close to something like the ideal of ego death. It's not about my desires.

When Luka talks about being right in the maelstrom of it, being whipped around by forces that might be good or might be bad, I don't recognise that. For me it's more like being struck dumb. Awed, but no sense that these forces are malleable to my designs.

Well using divination as I said is often about giving up desires. Or making 'em more in tune with what's really happening.

People often talk about magic like it's a neutral technology that can be applied to a situation like a drill or a hammer. I don't think its' like that at all.

Pitilessly materialistic spirituality makes me think of a dichotomy between a kind of earth-mother, nature worship, energy coming up from the ground, warm, enfolding, fuzzy, cannabis, hemp trousers spirituality. Reggae music and home cooked vegetarian food, embodied, loving, anything but pitiless, spirituality on the one hand (Pattycakes and John Eden signify this for me, and I don't mean that as an insult)

And the kind of electric, occult, magical, intellectual, father God, visionary, spirituality on the other. Mark was attuned to the latter and revolted by the former.

Kether is in Malkuth and Malkuth is in Kether. We are of the earth, and the path to the godhead begins from its foundation.

Wanking on sigils etc, its obviously a bit unusual, but its not much different to a lot of the very trad, codified religions. As in, its no such a stretch from getting on your knees and praying at the end of a chistmas service. And when you get to the older religions, they are still chock full of this sort of thing. Im from a hindu background and as kids we used to go to all night prayer meetings where people would regualrly get possessed by the mother goddess. All quite normal.

Yeah I come from a dogmatically atheist family background but Catholicism seems like it bleeds into magic? The belief in miracles, relics, the power of the object and image.

In that Maradona documentary I think they make the case that in Naples he was held as some kind of pagan god. Like a footballing Pan.

Yeah that doc is brilliant with all the details about his canonisation, the nurse who gave him a blood test and put a vial of his blood by the statue of san gennaro, and the graffiti where they depicted him as christ with the virgin. I love that people do that. Really would like to visit naples someday.

Thanks Craner. This is another 'spiritual-mystical' idea that Danny alluded to briefly. That certain physical locations have unique spiritual magical properties. The land itself, prior to any historical factors.

That the land decides where the temple is built, where the cult centre is founded, where etc etc etc.

Naples and New Orleans both seen as paradigmatically magical places. As Canterbury is holy. Glastonbury is a big one.

Dissensus has actually been planned out really well. No ads , simple sign up, all open, fairly searchable. A highlight of the web and true to the original spirit and ethos when surprisingly little else in terms of discussion areas are not and are walled gardens
