i was almost going to google it, but thought that was too pedantic. should have. embarrassed myself in front of all my friends.

Version doesn't forget anything either. Two years from now he'll pull it up in a thread. Quote it perfectly word for word.

the "no gyal, no weed... no style, no vibe" to the tune of know we is brilliant though. no coming back from that.

futher reading for mvuent:

this one's great, showing grime's silly side. a silly side that distinctly emerged from wiley's sense of humour. grime is a whole genre just mapping the inner emotional terrain of one man. its all just different facets of wiley made manifest through different people.

Slackk’s Forgotten Grime MCs

By all accounts, Demon was scared out of the game by Chronik, among others. After sending for Chronik on a DVD – a strange move really, given Chronik & Slew Dem’s reputation for not taking any shit – Chronik lost his mind on radio sending back for him, and scared him out of the game. (I mentioned this in my feature on grime beef earlier in the year). The exact same thing happened with Riko: Demon turned up on BBC 1Xtra in the middle of the night and started running his mouth. Riko sending back on Rinse was a definite highlight. It’s a shame because although Demon was never really the greatest MC or lyricist, he did have a good ear for beats and a few bars that could muster a decent reload in a rave. “Armshouse” was arguably his biggest tune and really, his biggest reload bar, too. I never understood why he started talking reckless about other MCs when he couldn’t stand up to the beef.

It's a good list. Good for mvuent as well. I like that it avoids songs in favour of radio snippets. Grime is only what was on radio imo

yeah it's a really interesting list. maybe even a bit surprising, given that barty's said he usually likes the canon stuff in a given genre best.

there was a similar thing with the recommendations playlist afx had running when he was active on soundcloud--a lot of deep cuts from the early 90s that gave a way more intriguing picture of that music than sticking to the music (and format) you'd find on a pitchfork "best of" list would have.

if i'd wanted to hear rave music and only been able to find papua new guinea, i probably never would have been drawn in. likewise if this thread had been about boy in da corner i might have liked it (last heard that album when i was like 15) but probably wouldn't have had the urge to venture much further, like i do now.
