If we take this as true and IR35 has affected these drivers so directly then what you're looking at is a huge group of non-employed independent contractors, all "employed" to one employer but making a bit more dough because they're getting paid as a limited company.

So that's kicked in, the drivers have baulked at the PAYE drop in wage, as the firms have decided to put them back onto their payroll but tried to levy the supposed direct payroll costs back onto the workers. It's happened to loads of lads I know over the last couple of years- myself included- and I can't blame them for not wanting to stay in the game- or working less via PAYE- if it's a transfer from making bags of money as a LTD then getting turned over.

Quite weird if the advent of Brexit ends up kicking in a batch of workers rights but I find it quite unlikely to be honest

Self-driving freight lanes sound fucking scary tbh keep me well away from that shit.

what would happen if you threw a stuffed toy in the shape of a child into the self driving lane? i guess the idea if they all go at the exact speed and keep the exact distance apart that they wont crash into each other? domestic terrorists like 'extinction rebellion' might try these disruption tactics though knowing they wont be putting drivers lives or livelihoods at risk

well, the current models require a human to be present in the vehicle who can "take charge" in cases like that - doesn't work as trials have shown that that human will probably be watching til-tok videos on their phone

Drove 7.5t delivering fridges n freezer units to the first British customers to get those *in whispered tones posh double-breasted American fridge freezers that allow them to drink filtered water

They weighed a ton, so you’d get another agency temp as a driver’s mate to help manoeuvre them into someone’s home. God forbid you met a flight of steps, weird doorway, or topographic anomaly, but invariably some cunt wold spot a dust scuff and then wanted it returned

If you had 20-30 drops, eventually you’d have to move the returns to the back of the vehicle. Had them crush through the piece of crap panelling that sealed off the driver seats and space behind after breaking hard on motorways

If you’re out of work and can drive, single drops (city to city, site to site) aren too bad

We got a washing machine delivered the other day. Was thinking how the fuck will we get it to the third floor, but luckily it coincided with this Ukrainian builder fixing some stuff for V. Delivery driver and I just about managed to manhandle it 3 metres from lorry to the building... and then Alexei picked it up, put it on his back and carried it to the top.

my dad drove a trailer truck for a few years when he first got out of the navy, mostly Boston-NY-Philly route, so not long haul. Had a good set up because the manufacturer or distributor would do the load in, and the customer would do the load out. all he had to do was drive.
