Really missing playing football now... press-ups or whatever are all very well but it's a poor substitute for running around outside kicking a ball. I'm wondering, apparently with the new relaxed rules we can meet at a friend's house as long as there aren't more than ten of you in total, does that mean we can play 5-a-side if we promise not to kiss when I score

i got some dumbbells before corona and i recently started using them since i'm much more at home. i use them everyday now. i would have never thought i'd start liking it. i'm a total beginner and always had a rather slim figure so i got some that you can adjust. i'm only doing two exercises so far, the dumbbell press, for these i use 10kg. and the dumbbell bicep curl, for those i use 8kg. i guess that's very light for real fitness heads but i've been doing it for about 6 weeks now and i'm able to finish certain repetitions that i wasn't able to do so at the beginning. what i like about it too is that it only takes like 10 minutes. it's great when you have a moment at home when you're bored. i'm looking for extra weights now but they're all sold out everywhere. now i just need to find an exercise for my belly and then i got my upper body covered. i'll look so good, my god.

What I used to do was alternate between,

- warm up
- 1 minute plank (push up position)
- 1 minute side plank
- 3 x 12 bicep curls
- 3 x 12 side lateral raises
- 6 x 10 push ups
- 6 x 10 diamond push ups
- 6 x 10 dips
- 1 minute plank (forearms)
- 1 minute side plank
- warm down

And,

- warm up
- 1 minute plank (push up position)
- 1 minute side plank
- 6 x 60 crunches
- 2 x 12 flat bench lying raises
- 2 x 24 side leg raises (each side)
- 6 x 5 squats
- 1 minute plank (forearms)
- 1 minute side planl
- warm down

I try to do everything as slowly as possible and just do as many as I can whilst I can't do the full routine. I also do ankle exercises and general stretches throughout the day.

wow, this is quite an exercise. how much time did it take for one of those sessions?

Padraig mentioned Marcus Filly in the Ronald Reagan thread. I started following him on IG and jumped in on a programme he set up for lockdown called Persist: Minimalist. It's great. Really interesting methodology behind it all - I'm amazed that, unlike every exercise programme I've ever done before - I haven't injured myself - and this is an outcome built into the programme re. the variety of exercises, so no 500 burpees in a row and fucking your joints. Lots of interesting variants like building intensity by shortening rest periods and lengthing the lowering phase of lifts. I do get quite obsessed with things and this is the current one as there's so much interesting thinking behind the program. Been pissing off the gf by doing 90m workouts instead of playing with the kids.

This has made me remember I really enjoy lifting weights. Haven't done it for maybe 10 years though.

I only have 20k of dumbells and a skipping rope but that's enough for now. Still find some holding overhead moves difficult with 10k though I can tell it'd be worth being heavier on some this is okay for me currently. I bought some furniture sliders to use for some of the exercise variants he lists but can barely do them.

Sample - be doing this later today. EMOM = Every minute on the minute i.e. you start at the top for each exercise every minute whether you've done the previous reps or not.

EMOM x 24mins
1st - (Single Arm DB Devil Press + Single Arm DB Hang Muscle Snatch) x 3/side
2nd - 6-8 Single Arm Dumbbell Thruster/arm
3rd - 10-12 Dumbbell Hammer Curl to Press
4th - 20sec/Side Contralateral Plank

What do we think of Macho Mailer on exercise?

"Any workout which does not involve a certain minimum of danger or responsibility does not improve the body -- it just wears it out."

I've lost seven pounds since lockdown, pretty much all from my gut. Size medium t-shirts fit again, despite the wife's stress-relief baking and generous enjoyment of tit-growing IPAs!

Reminds me of that scene in the Phantom of Liberty (I think - certainly Bunuel) when they all sit at the table and take a shit together.

I love this shit. So mental. There's something so absurd about it just turns marvellous. Been watching Obi Vincent videos on Youtube who is quite entertaining.

You doing any of it? I follow a bloke called Mike Mahler on IG, might appeal to you, he's a vegan - not a bodybuilder as such though.
