Gyms looks fucking terrifying to. I couldn't handle it. All those people around. Doing weird shit.

That put me off for years. I had a membership for 3 or 4 months before I actually turned up. The other hurdle for me was shoes and socks, but once they were sorted I was psychically prepared for the horror. But there was no horror, there were yoga pants.

For me, it's not the physiques I find weird but the prevalence of tattoos, and the fact that I have none. I'm not used to feeling like a weirdo for *not* looking like a mid-level enforcer for the Sinaloa cartel.

Definitely feel put off when I walk through a gym to go swimming or whatever, I keep thinking someone will drop a massive weight on me or one of those weird machines will snap under the strain and fire bolts at my head.

While ago I saw a woman getting some one-to-one training with an employee at the gym I go to (or went to), which consisted of kettle-bell swings right at the edge of the mezzanine floor above the free weights area. So if she'd accidentally let go at the end of a swing - easily done with sweaty hands, I'm sure - it would have flown through the air, dropped some thirty-odd feet and potentially killed someone.

One of my brother's mates got a pretty hefty payout because he was walking past a gym and a dumbbell someone had used to prop open a window fell on his head.

I once threw a medicine ball through a glass first floor window while training pushes. Onto a busy street by Borough Market. Couldn't train for the rest of the night, had to go home.

Ah right... thought you had one of your famous rage attacks and hulked out, smashed everything up, threw the medicine ball through the window and stormed out shouting fuck you to everyone.

The only ppl anyone pays attention to at the gym are the loud attention drawing dickheads who drop weights on the floor and scream like they're rambo.

You've also got to remember that a fair few ppl in the gym were probably not in good shape when they started. So they're not just a bunch of meathead jocks. I was scared before I went that I'd be getting pushed into the lockers and hung upsidedown for my lunch money.
